🚫 What Is Hate Speech & Why It Matters

Read the post

Hate speech is more than just hurtful language— it’s a tool that spreads fear, division, and discrimination.

It targets people because of who they are:

🧩 their race

🧩 their religion

🧩 their identity

🧩 or their abilities

And when left unchecked, it leads to real harm:

Bullying, exclusion, isolation—and in some cases, even violence.

In sport, hate speech breaks down team spirit and creates unsafe environments where athletes no longer feel like they belong.

But sport should be a space where everyone feels included, respected, and seen.

🧠 Words matter

🏆 Ethics in Coaching: Leadership That Shapes People, Not Just Players

Read the post

🏀In sport, coaches are more than instructors—they are mentors, role models, and culture builders. Every decision a coach makes, every word they say, and every behavior they model becomes part of the team’s identity.
🙏🏻Great coaches don’t just teach how to pass, run, or win.

They teach how to respect, how to include, and how to lead with integrity.

🌟They build environments where:

-Respect is shown to all, regardless of background or ability.

-Inclusion isn’t just a policy—it’s a practice lived daily.

-Fair play is valued more than victory at any cost.

Because in the long run, who you become through sport matters more than how many points you score.

💪 How Sport Builds Emotional Resilience

Read the post

Life is unpredictable. Pressure is real. Emotions are complex.

🧠 But emotional resilience—the ability to adapt, bounce back, and grow—can be developed.

🏀 Here’s how sport helps:

🔹 Teamwork teaches empathy, communication, and trust.

🔹 Physical activity reduces stress hormones and boosts mood.

🔹 Routine creates structure, discipline, and stability.

Whether you win or lose, sport trains the brain to keep going.

👉 Let’s play for strength—not just muscles, but minds.

✅ Teamwork builds connection and empathy

✅ Exercise boosts serotonin and reduces stress

✅ Routine gives purpose and stability

Athletes fail, fall, and learn to rise again.

That’s emotional training—disguised as sport.

🧠 Resilience is a skill, not a gift.

What Is the EU Doing to Combat Radicalisation?

Read the post

🟢Radicalisation doesn’t happen overnight — and it doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s a complex process that can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. That’s why the European Union is taking action to tackle the root causes and build safer, more inclusive communities across Europe.

Here are some of the key ways the EU is working to prevent radicalisation:

🔗 RAN – Radicalisation Awareness Network

The RAN brings together frontline professionals: teachers, youth workers, police, community leaders, and more — to share knowledge and practical tools for preventing radicalisation. It’s about early intervention, dialogue, and real solutions that work on the ground. 👥

🤝 EU Anti-Racism Action Plan (2020–2025)

Hate and discrimination fuel division. The EU’s Anti-Racism Action Plan promotes equality, inclusion, and justice, helping to address the social inequalities that can lead to extremism. It supports national strategies, anti-racist policies, and education campaigns across Member States. ✊

📚 Education & Media Literacy

The EU invests in critical thinking, digital literacy, and intercultural education to help young people question harmful narratives and resist online propaganda. Because informed minds are more resilient. 💡

🧠 Mental Health & Social Support

From community projects to funding for youth engagement and mental health initiatives, the EU is focusing on prevention and connection — helping people find support before they fall through the cracks. 🧩

🙏🏻Combating radicalisation is a shared responsibility, and the EU is committed to a holistic, human-rights-based approach. Because safety, freedom, and dignity should belong to everyone.

💥Top 5 Ways Young People Can Prevent Hate💬

Read the post

You don’t have to change the world alone — but you can start with your team, your school, your crew. Here’s how:

1️⃣ Speak up, don’t stay silent – When you witness hate, whether it’s bullying, racism, discrimination, or harmful language — don’t look away. ✋

Silence is not neutral. It gives hate space to grow. Instead, speak out. Be respectful, but firm. Your voice can give courage to others and stop hate in its tracks.

2️⃣ Respect differences – People come from all kinds of backgrounds — different races, religions, genders, sexualities, abilities, and cultures.

Instead of fearing what’s different, celebrate it. 🌈

Diversity makes life richer, teams stronger, and communities more creative.

3️⃣ Learn before you judge – It’s easy to assume. It’s harder, but way more powerful, to stay curious. 🤔

Ask questions. Listen. Try to understand people’s experiences. Often, hate is just ignorance in disguise.

4️⃣ Lead by example – Whether you’re on the field, in class, at home, or online, people are watching. The way you treat others sets the tone. So choose kindness, empathy, and fairness. 👣

Even small actions, inviting someone new to your group, standing up for a classmate, or welcoming a teammate, can spark big change.

5️⃣ Connect through sports & teamwork – Sport brings people together like nothing else. 🏆 When you play on a team, you learn to trust, cooperate, and respect people from all walks of life. On the field, it’s not about where you come from, it’s about working together for a goal.

Hate doesn’t stand a chance where there’s unity.

🌍💪 You have power. Use it to build a world where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.

💬 Speak Up – Don’t stay silent on bias or bullying. Be the voice that changes the vibe.

Let’s build teams where everyone feels like they belong. 💥

💡How Can Sport Prevent Radicalisation?💡

Read the post

🏀Sport is so much more than just a game; it’s a global language that speaks to unity, respect, and inclusion. Whether you’re on a football pitch, basketball court, or running track, sport creates opportunities for people from all walks of life to come together, build friendships, and break down harmful stereotypes.

🤝 When you join a team, you’re not just playing to win, you’re learning to trust others, cooperate across differences, and support one another through challenges. These connections are powerful. They replace hate with understanding and fear with empathy.

🌟Sport teaches us:

Teamwork over division – You can’t win alone. Success depends on everyone working together, no matter where they come from or what they believe.

Respect over hate – Players are taught to respect the game, the referee, their coach, and — most importantly their opponents.

Discipline over violence – Through training and competition, athletes learn self-control, perseverance, and how to channel emotions in a positive way.

🟢Radicalisation often feeds on loneliness, hopelessness, and the desire to belong.

Sport can be a lifeline. It offers:

-A sense of belonging

-A positive identity

-A safe space to grow and express yourself

-A purpose that’s bigger than any single match or medal

🙏🏻So let’s use this incredible tool to uplift, connect, and empower. 🗣️ Encourage the young people around you to get involved. Whether it’s coaching, playing, or even cheering from the sidelines, every role in sport matters.

Together, through sport, we can build a more inclusive, resilient, and peaceful world. 🌍

International Association for Human Values (IAHV) approach

☮️ IAHV advocates for a radically new paradigm of how we understand and deal with violent extremism. The approach is fundamentally human, situated in a broader peacebuilding framework, and tackles the psycho-social roots of the challenge. IAHV programmes use a comprehensive set of processes and tools facilitating physical, mental, emotional and existential changes, as such positively transforming well-being, attitudes, behaviours and relationships. ☮️

💡 When individuals are able to release stress and negative emotions, calm their worries and expel tensions from the mind – and are thus positively established within themselves – it is reflected in their behaviour, relationships and outlook towards the world. Building on restored mental and emotional well-being, IAHV programmes apply a set of pedagogical methods and strategies (processes, knowledge, discussions, games, practical tools) to strengthen self-confidence, explore a broadened and shared self-identity, inculcate human values, improve non-violent conflict resolution, address issues of trust, fear, suspicion and hatred, reduce resentment, build connectedness, and reinforce healthy attitudes and skills for peaceful coexistence.

On a behavioural level, this subsequently leads to a diminished need for negative coping strategies, improved communication and life skills to handle challenging situations, as well as a reduced inclination towards harmful behaviour towards themselves or others. 💡

✅ Teamwork

✅ Respect for diversity

✅ Problem-solving & communication

✅ Leadership & empathy

In communities facing exclusion, poverty or migration, sport becomes a bridge—connecting youth, building trust, and promoting inclusion.

The support line is a national service that provides professional support, counselling and referrals to individuals or civil society actors with concerns about a young person being radicalized or involved in an extremist environment. 📞

🗣️ They also support children who want to leave an extremist environment. The overall objective being to prevent that children and young adults fall victim to violent extremism. Gelijk=Gelijk?

🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 It prevents and counters radicalisation by promoting tolerance and encouraging people of different backgrounds to work together. It emphasises the importance of knowing the difference between opinions, facts and prejudice. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

👥 Gelijk=Gelijk? aims to develop socio-cognitive skills such as placing oneself in someone else’s shoes, acknowledging similarities amongst (groups of) people, and deciding on actions based on norms and values. It also focuses on social factors such as stimulating interethnic friendships. 👥

Gelijk=Gelijk? follows:

🔹Contact hypothesis: contact between individuals from different groups leads to fewer prejudices and a more positive relationship between groups.

🔹 Socialisation hypothesis: experiences, knowledge and information about diversity and diverse groups in society positively impact interethnic relations.

🔹 Social-cognitive development-hypothesis: attitude towards other groups is an indicator of sociocognitive development. Polarisation declines since this development is stimulated (e.g. by learning about other groups and experiences).

❌Anti-system/anti-government attitudes and extremism (ASAGE)

ASAGE attitudes of youngsters are often based on the reality they live in. The areas where they live in and the people around them are facing serious challenges, and governments and the system might be (or are perceived to be) part of such problems. ❌

👥 Young people have already experienced multiple crises in their short lives (financial, migration & asylum, environmental, war, pandemic, housing, cost of living), and can feel that governments haven’t done anything for them during these crises and that the current institutions are not capable of managing these problems. 👥

❌Anti-system/anti-government attitudes and extremism (ASAGE)

The trust of young people in democracy is decreasing, despite the efforts for citizenship education. People with various divergent grievances and ideologies seem to have found each other in a narrative that largely evolves around distrust in governments and institutions. ASAGE goes beyond common criticism by youth towards authority, but is a specific narrative undermining principles of democracy and promoting structural distrust towards the Institutions. ❌

Young people, particularly “digital natives”, spend a lot of time online, to the extent that important aspects of their lives and social interactions are rooted online. This includes belonging to a variety of digital communities, through different communication channels. In their online interactions, they can become exposed to certain elements of language or narratives (such as toxic masculinity or racist remarks, including in the guise of humour), which can progressively contribute to the normalisation of certain forms of extremism. We conducted our pre-visit meeting in Italy. The coordinating organization, MV INTERNATIONAL – MVI (Italy), along with partner institutions KS Beniaminek 03 (Poland), KARATE KLUB METALURG SKOPJE (North Macedonia), and Organisation – EDULAB – APS (Italy) participated in the meeting.

Fighting against radicalization and preventing radicalization are two distinct measures that are effective at different stages of the radicalization process. This draft highlights two particular priorities in addressing radicalization:

Anticipation and combating of malevolence and intolerance.

Integration of sports and social participation as a means of countering radicalization.

Objectives:

Increase awareness in the fight against malevolence and intolerance.

Encourage the value of participation and resist radicalization.

Promote sports as a widespread educational tool to achieve social integration.

The collaboration with these diverse institutions from Italy, Poland, and North Macedonia allows for the exchange of perspectives and expertise, contributing to the success of international projects and mutual goals. Good luck with your endeavors!
